The Fishery Watchtower is the only building of its kind in Ireland.
It was built by the Ashworth family in 1852/53 after they purchased the rights to the Galway Fisheries.
It was used as a draft netting station and the panoramic views facilitated monitoring poachers and fish stocks.
Dúchas na Gaillimhe –Galway Civic Trust together with Inland Fisheries Ireland, have now opened this building, including a fisheries museum, to the public.
